After giving the police officer a few more details, he finally left In Season. Tracy was relieved to see him go, and as he exited the shop, she noticed the armpits of her t-shirt were damp from nervously sweating.

“What was that all about?” Isabella asked, the concern clear in her voice. “That sounded serious.”

Tracy shrugged, wanting to downplay the severity of the situation. “Just a routine thing,” she answered, trying to sound casual. “It’s nothing to worry about.”

Isabella eyed her suspiciously. “Really?” she asked.

Before Tracy could muster up and answer, the door opened. Aunt Rose walked in carrying two paper grocery bags.

“Good morning,” she smiled politely at Isabella. “Is my niece taking good care of you?”

Isabella pasted a warm smile on her face. “Rose, it’s so good to see you. It’s been so long. I don’t know if you will remember me. I’m Isabella, Tracy’s friend. We met briefly at Tracy’s surprise 30th birthday party a few years ago.”

Rose’s lips curled into a smile, and she carefully set the two grocery bags down on the floor beside her before walking over to embrace the young woman. “Isabella? Oh, what a treat. I remember you! You organized the entire surprise party. What are you doing here in town?”

Isabella squeezed Rose. “I wanted to surprise Tracy,” she explained. “My schedule kind of…. cleared up, and it seemed like a great time to pop in for a visit. I thought we could do some wedding planning, too!”

Rose stepped back and turned to Tracy. “She is such a doll,” she exclaimed, her eyes dancing with excitement. “It makes my heart happy to know you have such sweet, thoughtful friends, Tracy.”

Isabella grinned. “You’re making me blush,” she teased. “Rose, are you free this evening? I thought we could sit down and map out a few wedding details that are still up in the air. I can’t imagine how stressful wedding planning must be, and I am so excited to help Tracy.”

Rose’s smile faded a bit. “I can’t make it this evening,” she paused. “How long are you in town? This weekend, you could come over to my house for a girls’ night and some planning. We can make a night of it with some champagne, wedding-themed movies, and maybe manicures?”

“That sounds lovely.” Isabella turned to Tracy. “Why didn’t you tell me your aunt was this amazing?” she joked. “Rose, will you adopt me as your niece? All my aunts live in Europe, and I need a cool aunt stateside to do my nails and drink champagne with!”

Rose chuckled. “Of course,” she agreed. “Tracy, what do you think of that plan?”

Just then, a customer walked into the shop. She walked up to the counter and set her red leather purse on the counter. “Hi, I need to buy some pink, red, and yellow roses for my Grandma’s birthday.”

Isabella lifted her hand and gave a wave. “I’ll leave you ladies to it,” she said to Tracy and Rose. “Tracy, if you’re free later, stop by the Marigold,” she directed.
